Drain the cabbage, you can rinse it if it is very sour. Place in a pot with bay leaves, cumin and allspice and cover with stock. Cook until almost tender.
In the meantime, fry the onion and chopped sausage in a pan with oil or lard, sprinkle with flour and fry a thinner broth. Finally, pour in the paprika, mix and set aside. Allow the mixture to cool. Stir this mixture into the cabbage, season with salt and pepper and cook for at least another 15 minutes.
Zelňačka is a traditional Czech cabbage soup. It belongs to the rich and hearty soups and is cooked in a large number of variants. The basis is always cabbage, usually sauerkraut, and other vegetables such as potatoes or onions. Seasoning is usually salt, pepper, cumin and paprika. Bacon, smoked meat or sausage, dried mushrooms can be added, and at the end the soup can be topped with sour or sweet cream.
